Rules & Sanctioning

RULES

Endurance rides are governed by AERC rules.

The SEDRA rule book and guidelines exist to improve the quality of distance rides and the caliber of the competition at the rides and remove any questions of bias at rides.  The South Eastern Distance Riders Association has adopted the guidelines and rules concerning the ethics of ride management, judges, stewards riders and drivers in Competitive Trail Competitions.

SANCTIONING

All Distance Riders have favorite state or county parks, WMA, reserves or private lands they frequent for training or just a day of fun trail riding with friends and family! Sometimes as we meander down those lovely trails we wonder, wouldn’t it be great to have an Endurance Ride, Competitive Trail Ride or hold a Clinic … this place would be awesome! Then the questions start bombarding you, like a hailstorm … how do I get started? Who should I talk to? CTR?  Endurance?  Clinic? Am I crazy?

Planning and producing any long-distance competition takes time, effort, and usually an up-front financial outlay. If you are considering hosting a ride in a location used for other endurance or competitive trail rides, the selection and measuring of the trail is far less time consuming than starting from scratch.

Like any sports activity involving numbers of people and held outdoors, a great deal of effort and planning is required to assure the event runs without serious problems. We’ve compiled a list of Ride Managers and Management Team personnel that are experienced in the many aspects of long distance competition, Endurance and Competitive Trail, single days to multi-day Pioneer Rides. These veterans are willing to answer any questions and offer tips to help you coordinate a successful ride!

Sanctioning Fee is $40 for Competitive Trail and $40 for Endurance. Sanctioning requests and payment must be received at least 60 days prior to requested ride date or the ride will be sanctioned for mileage only. Ride results and volunteer list must be received within 30 days after the ride.  Sanctioned events must have a designated SafeSport ride management representative who has passed the SafeSport online training prior to the event. Regarding Endurance sanctioning, AERC is primary with regard to insurance and rules.
